Reinforcing Greatness: How MentraTrack Is Shaping the Future of Supervision

Let’s Talk Supervision

According to Turner et al. (2016), the 2011 Task Force on supervision—initiated by the BACB—uncovered a concerning reality: many supervisors demonstrated minimal competency in a variety of essential skills, including supervision contracts, behavioral skills training (BST), and performance-based feedback.

Unfortunately, this finding may not come as a surprise to many of my readers.

I still remember the first time I was told I’d need to supervise RBTs and aspiring BCBAs. I was newly certified, full of aspiration and optimism, but deeply unprepared. This wasn’t the fault of my supervisor, but rather a reflection of a broader systemic issue. Across the field, supervision practices (good, bad, or absent) have been passed down through our collective operant learning history. We’ve inherited patterns that are rarely questioned, and it's now our responsibility to pause, assess, and intentionally shape a better path forward.

It wasn’t until my third year as a BCBA that I finally felt confident in my ability to supervise responsibly. I had a solid understanding of compliance standards, documentation practices, and the balance required to provide effective, ethical supervision.

One of the most inspiring mentors in my journey once told me:

"We strive for quality over quantity."

That sentiment has stayed with me. True supervision isn't about checking boxes. It requires the supervisor’s full presence, intentionality, and a deep sense of responsibility in preparing the next generation of competent, ethical behavior analysts.

This is exactly why I’m thrilled to support Kamila Iacob—the visionary founder behind MentraTrack, one of the most innovative supervision platforms I’ve seen enter the behavior analytic space. I had the opportunity to speak with Kamila about her passion, her drive for change, and the thoughtful ingenuity she’s bringing to the field.

Interview with Kamila (MentraTrack)

1. What inspired you to create MentraTrack?

It came from living the frustration myself. After years of supervising trainees, I saw how messy, stressful, and inconsistent fieldwork tracking could be. Everyone had their own spreadsheet, notes were scattered, compliance checks were last-minute, and so much time was wasted chasing signatures instead of focusing on meaningful supervision. I wanted something more than just a tracker, something that would actually strengthen the fieldwork experience. I noticed there were other “trackers” out there, but they purely tracked hours (and even then, they didn’t check for compliance). I knew we could do better by creating a tool that not only logs hours but actively supports quality mentorship, skill development, and BACB® alignment from start to finish.

Supervision shouldn’t feel like guesswork. It should be strategic, supported, and centered on excellence. MentraTrack brings structure to that vision, and Kamila Iacob is the mind behind it.

In our interview, Kamila shared her inspiration, the gaps she saw in the field, and how MentraTrack is redefining what it means to prepare ethical, confident professionals in behavior analysis.

2. What common barriers or pain points were you addressing?

So many. Trainees stressed about logging hours correctly. Supervisors stressed about staying compliant. And everyone stressed about finding time for meaningful feedback. The systems we had were broken, spreadsheets couldn’t flag compliance issues, there was no easy way to track competencies, and supervision notes or goals were scattered across different places. Most supervisors had no real visibility into a trainee’s hours or compliance status until it was too late, and organizations had zero oversight into what was happening across their teams.

I wanted an all-in-one platform where supervisors could manage everything: hour tracking, progress monitoring, document storage, and even goal generation without juggling ten different tools. That’s why we developed our AI Goal Generator. It’s not here to replace clinical judgment, but to speed up the process especially for newer clinicians who sometimes struggle with writing clear, measurable, individualized goals. By removing those bottlenecks and giving supervisors a strong starting point, they can focus on refining and teaching rather than staring at a blank screen.

For organizations, MentraTrack gives leadership complete oversight of supervision activities, compliance metrics, and trainee progress all in one place. Admins can quickly identify which trainees are on track, spot compliance risks before they become problems, and see exactly how supervisors are supporting skill development, without waiting for end-of-month reports or sifting through endless documents.

4. How does MentraTrack go beyond compliance?

Compliance is the baseline but mentorship is the goal. MentraTrack is one of the only platforms that actively supports BACB® compliance in real time catching issues before they become audit problems. But we don’t stop there. We give supervisors tools to track skills over time, set meaningful, SMART goals, and provide structured feedback that actually helps supervisees grow. Over time, we’re expanding to include even more tools to support supervision, like built-in curriculums and mentorship resources, so you can spend less time chasing requirements and more time developing confident, competent future clinicians. With full visibility into strengths, growth areas, and progress, you can be intentional with your mentorship and truly prepare trainees for the real world.

3. How does MentraTrack support supervisors in goal setting and progress tracking?

Our SMART AI Goal Generator takes the guesswork and the blank page panic out of writing clear, individualized goals. Every goal it creates is fully editable, so supervisors can refine it to fit their trainee’s exact needs. We focus on generating goals that address real skill deficits, not just generic targets, so every objective has purpose and impact.

Progress tracking happens right inside the dashboard, meaning you never have to dig through old notes or spreadsheets to figure out where someone stands. And we’re not stopping there, future updates will bring even more ways to track goal progress over time, making it simple to spot growth, identify barriers, and adjust support so trainees keep moving forward.

5. What are the must-have features?

Our users love the AI Goal Generator for creating SMART, individualized trainee goals in seconds, and the AI-powered trainee assessment tool for quickly identifying strengths and growth areas. The instant monthly verification forms are another game-changer, they’re automatically generated, sent for signature, and instantly synced into the supervisor’s dashboard, so there’s no chasing down paperwork or hunting through email attachments. And perhaps best of all, everything is organized and stored in one secure place, so supervisors can access hours, forms, goals, and feedback without digging through scattered files or multiple systems.

6. How does it align with BACB requirements?

Everything in MentraTrack is intentionally built around the BACB® supervision standards, from how hours are logged and categorized to how verification forms are formatted and generated. It’s one of the only platforms explicitly designed to support the upcoming BACB® 2027 supervision requirements. Compliance checks run automatically on every logged hour, flagging risks before they lead to audit issues so you’re never scrambling at the last minute.

8. How does it improve supervisor–supervisee relationships?

When you remove the chaos of lost notes, unclear goals, and last-minute compliance fixes, you make space for real conversation and collaboration. With MentraTrack handling the admin side like compliance checks, organized goal tracking, and progress monitoring, supervisors and trainees can shift their focus away from simply meeting requirements. Instead, they can spend their time on true mentorship, discussing cases, role-playing skills, and building clinical judgment. The transparency of having hours, progress, and goals visible in one place fosters trust and keeps both sides aligned, leading to stronger, more impactful relationships.

7. What feedback have you received?

Organizations have told us that MentraTrack gives their supervisors a stronger, more efficient way to see exactly how each trainee is progressing without waiting for end-of-month reports or piecing together data from multiple sources. Supervisors appreciate having real-time visibility into hours, compliance status, and skill development, which makes it easier to step in with targeted support. Trainees have shared that the platform feels intuitive to use and has helped them clearly understand BACB® requirements, reducing the confusion and anxiety that often come with fieldwork. That combination of organizational oversight, supervisor insight, and trainee clarity is exactly what we set out to deliver.

9. What’s your proudest feature?

We’re incredibly proud of our real-time compliance and progress tracking. There’s nothing more empowering for supervisors and trainees than knowing exactly where they stand at any given moment. It takes away the guesswork, reduces anxiety, and lets everyone focus on meaningful growth instead of scrambling to figure out if they’re on track.

Of course, our AI features like the Goal Generator and trainee assessments are huge game-changers, but what excites us most right now is what’s coming next. We’re developing AI-powered role-play tools that will give trainees the ability to rehearse essential skills, like navigating a difficult conversation with a parent or handling a challenging supervision scenario in a safe, guided environment.

These tools will go beyond traditional ABA training in the context of children with ASD. They will give trainees the opportunity to apply the science of behavior to a variety of settings and specialties, including Organizational Behavior Management (OBM), tech, staff training, and other areas where BCBA’s can make an impact. This kind of hands-on, diverse skill rehearsal will help create well-rounded, confident professionals ready for the full range of opportunities in our field.

10. What’s your vision for MentraTrack?

I want MentraTrack to be the gold standard for supervision in ABA, setting the example for how mentorship can be done at the highest level. At its core, this has always been about mentorship and raising the standard for how we prepare future clinicians We’re building tools that give supervisors everything they need to truly support their trainees: from AI-powered goal generation and role-play practice, to organized tracking systems, resources, and templates that make their jobs easier and more impactful.

I see MentraTrack becoming the go-to resource hub for BCBAs, giving them not just a platform where their trainees can log hours, but a comprehensive set of tools to guide, teach, and mentor effectively. For organizations, it’s about accessibility and scalability providing leadership with the systems and visibility they need to grow while ensuring supervision quality never slips.

Long-term, I want every BCBA to feel confident they’re preparing their trainees to be leaders in the field, with the right structures, resources, and support in place to make that happen.

A Note From Functionally Speaking ABA:

Supervision is a responsibility that should be met with structure, heart, and the right tools. MentraTrack is more than a tracking system—it’s a step forward in building a more competent, ethical, and empowered workforce of behavior analysts.

If you’re a supervisor, student, or someone passionate about improving our field, I hope Kamila’s story and vision inspire you to rethink how we support those who carry our science into the future.
