Bridging Science & Heart in Behavior Analysis
Whether you are a clinician, parent, advocate, applied behavior analysis (ABA) opposed, or somewhere in between, you’ve likely experienced the rabbit hole of divisive information regarding ABA practice online.
Social media is charged with misinformation and personal bias (shocker). However, the drastic shifts in conversation about scientific practice are most impactful for the people we are trying to help.
To bridge this gap, I’ve created Functionally Speaking ABA.
My goal is to make behavior analysis accessible, transparent, and grounded in scientific evidence and compassion. Here, I translate research into practice, welcome difficult conversations, and place consumer protection at the forefront.
Whether you're a behavior analyst, student, parent, autistic self-advocate, professional from another discipline, or simply someone seeking to better understand ABA, you are welcome here.
Thank you for reading, learning, and growing with me.
About Me
Hi, I’m Ellie Eastlund - a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and lifelong learner passionate about ethical, compassionate, and socially meaningful behavior analysis.
Over the years, I’ve worked alongside incredible RBT’s, families, and clients who’ve taught me that data and dignity go hand in hand. My journey began with burnout and uncertainty, but I found renewed purpose in doing ABA differently - with curiosity, humility, and heart.
My Christian faith is the cornerstone of who I am and has deeply shaped my work. It grounds me in love, compassion, humility, and integrity - and it’s the foundation of my commitment to serving others with dignity & respect, honoring all perspectives, and extending grace in both conversation and practice.
This blog is a space where I share insights from the field, reflect on supervision & leadership, unpack research in approachable ways, and invite honest conversations - especially the hard ones. Whether you’re an ABA professional, a parent navigating services, or someone with valid concerns about the field, I’m glad you’re here! My mission is to bridge the gap between science and humanity, and to grow alongside a community that cares deeply about both.
Let’s build better practices together.
P.S. - Please enjoy this photo of my esteemed walleye catch!
