📌 General Questions

What is Functionally Speaking ABA all about?
Functionally Speaking ABA is a blog dedicated to exploring behavior analysis with heart. Topics range from ethical dilemmas and supervision to workplace wellness, cultural responsiveness, and humanistic behaviorism — always with a focus on compassion, transparency, and social impact.

Who writes this blog?
Hi! I’m Ellie Eastlund, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and advocate for values-driven, human-first ABA. You can learn more about me on the About page.

Who is this blog for?
This blog is designed for:

  • BCBAs and BCaBAs

  • RBTs

  • Graduate students in behavior analysis

  • Interdisciplinary professionals (OTs, SLPs, educators)

  • Advocates, caregivers, and curious readers interested in behavior, ethics, and human well-being

🧑‍🏫 Supervision & Ethics

Do you offer supervision or mentorship?
I’m not currently offering formal supervision, but I do share supervision-focused resources, reflections, and support for current supervisors and supervisees. You can explore the On My Best Behavior tag for related posts.

Do you write about the BACB Ethics Code?
Yes! Many of my blog posts relate to the BACB’s Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts. I explore real-world applications, gray areas, and strategies for ethical decision-making in practice.

🧠 Behavior Analysis Topics

Is this a blog just for ABA professionals?
Not at all! While much of the content is ABA-based, the blog also connects to broader themes like burnout, workplace bullying, self-advocacy, and leadership — topics relevant across disciplines.

✍️ Do you accept guest posts?

Yes — Functionally Speaking ABA proudly features guest contributors! I love collaborating with professionals, students, and individuals with lived experience to broaden the conversation and highlight voices from across the field (and beyond). Here are a few ongoing series open to contributors:

  • 🗣 RBT Real Talk
A space for Registered Behavior Technicians to share honest experiences, insights, and challenges from the frontlines. Whether it’s a meaningful moment, a hard lesson, or a call for change, your voice matters here.

  • 🌍 Exploring Perspectives
A series dedicated to highlighting diverse viewpoints — especially those outside the traditional behavior analytic lens. This could include lived experiences, interdisciplinary insights, cultural critiques, or reflections from adjacent fields like education, mental health, advocacy, or disability justice. The goal is to foster respectful dialogue and broaden our understanding of behavior, ethics, and humanity.

  • 🎯 Accidentally ABA
Stories from people who found themselves using behavioral principles without realizing it — teachers, parents, therapists, or anyone who discovered “Oh wait… that’s ABA?” A fun and accessible way to celebrate behavior science in everyday life.
