Hodan is a passionate student leader and future educator. She serves as President of the Muslim Student Association and Chief of Staff for the African Student Association. She is dedicated to cultural advocacy and community building, and values education, heritage, and making an impact through leadership and storytelling.
My name is Hodan Noor, and I am currently pursuing a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education at Saint Cloud State University. My decision to become a teacher stems from a deep-rooted belief in the transformative power of education. I have always believed that education is a fundamental right and that knowledge is a lifelong asset, something no one can ever take away. This belief is perfectly captured in my favorite quote by Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” It is this mindset that has driven my passion not only to learn but to become someone others can learn from.

I am particularly passionate about special education because I believe that every child, regardless of their abilities or challenges, is capable of learning and thriving. Too often, students with disabilities are underestimated or overlooked. As an aspiring special education teacher, I am committed to challenging those misconceptions and advocating for inclusive practices that support every learner. I strongly believe that disabilities do not define a student’s capacity to succeed—they simply require us as educators to teach with more creativity, patience, and empathy.

Effective teaching, especially in special education, requires more than just subject knowledge. It demands compassion, resilience, and the ability to connect with each student on a personal level. Patience is not optional; it is essential. Without it, we cannot meet students where they are or support them in reaching their full potential. All children deserve the opportunity to learn, grow, and become confident, capable individuals, regardless of any labels or limitations society may place on them.
As I continue my journey toward becoming an educator, I am committed to fostering inclusive classrooms where diversity is celebrated, every student is valued, and learning is accessible to all. I aim to be a teacher who not only educates but also empowers and whose classroom is a place where all children can discover their strengths and believe in their potential.
